you wouldnt get an electronic game to get up and moving.

It is intended to show people that exercise is NOT bad and painful and is not meant to be a total replacement, but a first step and a substitute when one can’t go outside. Like how a Gym, or treadmill, like you mentioned before, should NOT be a replacement but an aid.
Wii fit is merely an aid, like any exercise equipment or gym.
